Latest Rankings From Kauffman
The 2008 State New Economy Index by the Kauffman Foundation once again ranks Utah 12th for moving its economy away from the old industrial "smokestack-chasing" model of the past to one based on technology, creativity and innovation, and ranked Utah 32nd for globalization, a measure of the extent to which the state's manufacturing and service workforce is employed producing goods and services for export and the share of the workforce employed by foreign-owned companies. The state is, however, making gains in export focus of manufacturing and services, moving from 36th in 2002 to 21st in 2008.
