REDFLY Mobile Companion Wins Award
Salt Lake City startup Celio Corporation was at the Consumer Electronic Show (CES) in Las Vegas and took home the CES Innovations 2008 Award in the category of Enabling Technologies.
Celio Corporation's REDFLY Mobile Companion is a sub-notebook-sized mobile companion, allowing users direct access to a Windows Mobile smartphone's OS, file system and applications via a larger monitor and keyboard.
The unit has no data storage or computer processor of its own. Instead, the REDFLY uses a new video compression technology via either a USB corded interface or a wireless Bluetooth 2.0 connection to interact with the host smartphone. The REDFLY features one VGA out port for presentations and lasts up to eight hours on battery power. The REDFLY can even charge your smartphone through its USB connection. Users can insert a USB flash drive into one of its two USB ports to add storage to the smartphone.

InnoVentures Capital Partners Launches $12 Million Fund
InnoVentures Capital Partners has opened its second fund with $12 million available for venture debt investment in early stage service, manufacturing and technology companies. This new fund is a part of the family of UTFC funds, which InnoVentures manages.
InnoVentures invests in small companies in Utah and surrounding states by providing subordinated debt to startup and growing businesses. Typical investments are in the $100,000 to $500,000 range. Venture debt investments are loans requiring repayment with interest over time and are seen primarily as either an alternative or complement to an equity investment.
Venture debt is proving to be an excellent option for entrepreneurs and startups that can't qualify for an SBA loan or business line of credit.

New Business Connects Consumers and Home Service Professionals
Salt Lake City-based AmericaHomeToday.com has launched its Web site, a localized resource and rating community connecting homeowners and home service professionals. With over 400 Utah-based home service professionals already participating, this easy-to-use service helps homeowners find the right help using specific search criteria and homeowner reviews.
The average homeowner will spend more than $2,300 annually on home improvement projects, and construction begins on over 2 million new homes each year. This level of construction and remodeling activity establishes a high demand for a variety of home service professionals, yet there is a disconnect in the marketplace between consumers and service professionals. AmericaHomeToday.com will help users design, build, find, fund and fix-up their homes by providing resources in four categories: contractors, mortgage lenders, real estate agents and suppliers
